Barclay Products 4500-DIV Diverter for Barclay 4500 series tub fillers

Diverter cartridge for Barclay Products 4500 series tub filler faucets.  

Here are the steps  to remove the old style diverter on item #4604-MC-CP:

1.  You will need a pair of pliers, a Philips screwdriver, and an Allen wrench or hex key.
2.  First, unscrew the handle from the stem. The handle should then come off.
3.  Next, locate the set screw on the side of the cover. Unscrew this, and then the cap should be able to be twisted off.
4.  To make removing the diverter easier, reattach the handle and screw it back into place. Then, pull the diverter out. If the plastic piece remains, use the pliers to remove it.
5.  To install the new diverter, attach it to the handle again, making sure to screw it in. Align the bottom of the diverter with the faucet. There are indicators inside the faucet and on the side of the diverter to show how it should go in. Then, push the new diverter back in; it should go in smoothly if everything is aligned correctly.
6.  Afterward, remove the handle. Insert and twist the cap back on, and don't forget to reinstall the set screw. Finally, screw the handle back in, and it should be all set.
